MegaFon says raises network capacity by third thanks to refarming
MOSCOW, Jan 20 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator MegaFon has increased the speed of its mobile Internet by a third in 24 regions through refarming, upgrading of the frequencies used in 2G and 3G networks to LTE, the company said on Friday in a statement.
“Loading on the operators’ networks rises all the time: video content, applications, online games become heavier. Refarming is an effective technical solution to enhance capacities of the network under heavy loading. It helps us use the existing potential of our infrastructure and improve the quality of services for subscribers fast,” Technical Director Alexei Titov said.
MegaFon analyzed consumption of mobile traffic in all regions and forecast a further rise of loading with the Big Data tools. The information was used for a large-scale refarming program.
The 1,800 GHz band is now used for 4G only, and a part of the 900 GHz spectrum was also transferred to the modern standard of connection.
